The great thing about Halo 3 multiplayer is that it uses a customized version of TrueSkill. What it does, is it creates a ranking system that allows it to group players of similar skill. It’s affected by both wins and losses. If you win against someone who is ranked higher than you and you win, that will increase your rank faster. But if you loose against someone with a lower rank, this is going to also drop your rank faster as well.
Another added feature that was introduced and has been dubbed the ‘A-Hole’ button, allows gamers to quickly and easily mute an annoying player from the in-game scoreboard view. During online play you’ll run into a variety of different skilled players.
You’ll have your average Joe that’s your generic player of average skill. You’ll have the ‘Noob’ which is the player that you’ll run into often, they try hard, and may only have a few kills compared to everyone else’s. Be kind to these players, sure they maybe easy targets, but they are tomorrow’s veteran players who will be as good as you are.
You’ll have the team player who is considered a ‘best friend’. They’ll wait to allow you a ride and drive you into combat, plus they’re the player that will be there for you to act as a shield as you complete an objective. Then there’s your lone wolf. This player is the one that likes to go at it alone.
You may come across the Slayer Fanatic; this player plays all different styles the same. And last but not least there’s always a guy in the ghost. The player who slaughters all from above, but there’s no need to get frustrated. All you need is a well timed rocket or grenade to take them out. There’s also the option of hi-jacking them from behind, but be careful because then you become the guy in the ghost and everyone’s going to be going after you.
No matter what your game style is there’s always room for you in Halo 3 multiplayer. So go on, get out there and have some fun.
