If you play Halo then you know exactly what the Elite are. For non-Halo players who may be new to the widely popular game, an Elite is an Alien race in the Halo series. The Elite’s were first introduced as the primary enemies in Halo: Combat Evolved. They returned again in Halo 2 in ways as an ally as gamers assumed control of the Arbiter. The Halo 3 Elite continue their journey to earth after the loss of the Covenant city.
The halo 3 Elite stands at around eight feet tall. Their jaw is quadruple-hinged, the upper jaw and four mandibles are lined with sharp pointed teeth. Their hands have been designed with only four fingers and two opposing thumbs on the outside of each hand to allow for grasping.
They are able to run quickly due to the fact that their legs are digitigrade and it also allows them to be able to jump long distances. Last but not least they are extremely strong and it was mentioned in the book Ghosts of Onyx that these characters have multiple hearts and purple blood.
The elites however have gone through many design changes before seeing the final product. In the beginning they had more conventional jaws, arrow-shaped heads and horns. Early designs had shown the Elites carrying an energy sword and a triple-layered energy shield; however these designs did not make it to the final game.
Another concept that did not make it into the final design was that the project lead wanted the Elites to have a tail. A question was brought up asking where the Elites tail would go when driving a vehicle; it was considered to have the Elite’s tuck their tail between their legs while driving…the idea was eventually dropped due to practical considerations.
The Halo 3 Elite value integrity and honor even in their foes. All Elite’s in all the Halo series wear armor, the color of said armor gives you an indication of rank, it also includes an integrated personal energy shield and some even have the ability to use active camouflage.
Extremely intelligent it is often most notable in combat, the Elite are known for constantly running, ducking, strafing and dodging while in combat. Elites also use the name Sangheili and they are considered very fierce warriors and skilled tacticians that make the world of Halo always exciting.
