Master Chief, A.K.A John-117 is an icon gaming character among many franchise characters as Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog and Lara Croft, in fact Master Chief was named the eighth greatest video game character ever made. Known as the main character in the widely popular Halo Series, Master Chief is a cybernetically enhanced human super-soldier, known never to be seen without his armor or helmet. Halo Master Chief was appeared in a wide variety of Halo novels such as Halo: The fall of reach, Halo: The flood, Halo: first strike and Halo: Uprising.
It’s been said that the Master Chief’s silent nature in gameplay has led to many people saying that he is one-dimensional and unbelievable but the developers of the game have made him this way so that the player can pretend that they are the Chief as well as keeping his face hidden at all times during gameplay to allow players to feel more of a bond while they play Halo Master Chief.
There has been a lot of speculation regarding the look of Master Chief; gamers all around the world have wondered what Master Chief has looked like without his helmet and many references have been made about his face in Halo spoofs. He was however described in Halo: The flood as being tall, with short hair, serious eyes and strong features with skin too white due to spending too much of his time in his armor and helmet.
Developers of the game have said that a model of Master Chief’s face has never been made, again another reason for players to bond with the lead character during gameplay. However it has been said that master chief’s face has been visible at some points. During the final cutscene it shows Master Chief removing his helmet, but you are unable to see what he looks like due to camera angels. However, gamers have used tools to stay in the ship as Master Chief takes off his helmet…to reveal another helmet underneath.
There is a lot of back story regarding Halo Master Chief, during times of his childhood to his early military career. Master Chief is never seen without his armor and helmet, while wearing all of his armor he is said to stand around seven feet tall and weighing 1,000 pounds but without his armor he is said to stand six feet tall and weighing 287 pounds. Even though there is a lot of speculation regarding Master Chief and what he looks like, what we do know is that he will stand as an icon character in gaming history for a long time.
